The FY2023 NIAMS Congressional Justification is the annual presentation to Congress that justifies the entire NIAMS budget request and reflects the continuing mission to support research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases; the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out this research; and the dissemination of information on research progress in these diseases.

In her December 2021 letter, NIAMS Director Dr. Lindsey Criswell discussed the launch of the Accelerating Medicines Partnership® Autoimmune and Immune-Mediated Diseases (AMP® AIM) program. This new initiative builds upon the progress of the prior AMP RA/SLE project, which greatly advanced our understanding of the mechanisms that drive disease in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and lupus.
