Office of the Scientific Director

The Office of the Scientific Director (OSD) is responsible for oversight, review, and administration of the NIAMS Intramural Research Program (IRP). The OSD has several key functions, including planning, coordinating, and directing the basic and clinical research programs conducted within the IRP.

The OSD encourages the implementation of new technologies and the application of new techniques, facilitates clinical research and trials, and promotes research collaboration. With the Career Development and Outreach Branch, the OSD ensures effective mentoring of NIAMS trainees.

Director

Tamara N. Alliston, Ph.D., is the NIAMS Scientific Director of Intramural Research and leads the NIAMS Intramural Research Program (IRP). Along with planning, coordinating, and directing the basic and scientific research programs of the NIAMS IRP, Dr. Alliston’s key responsibilities include recruiting and retaining world class investigators and charting the future direction of IRP research.
