Summary
Luciana Yamamoto de Almeida completed her D.D.S. degree from the State University of Montes Claros, Brazil. Upon graduation, she earned her M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the State University of Campinas, Brazil, where she investigated the effects of fatty acid synthase inhibition on melanoma and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Dr. Yamamoto de Almeida earned a specialization in oral medicine and became a provisional professor at São Paulo State University, Brazil. There, she researched oral leukoplakia and managed the Oral Diagnosis clinic. She also pursued postdoctoral research training in hematology at the University of São Paulo, focusing on investigating combinational therapies using EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors, all-trans retinoic acid, and arsenic trioxide for acute promyelocytic leukemia.
Dr. Yamamoto de Almeida joined NIDCR at NIH as a postdoctoral fellow working on osteoimmunology. She is continuing her postdoctoral training in the Vasculitis Translational Research Program at NIAMS under Dr. Peter Grayson.
Research Statement
Dr. Yamamoto de Almeida’s research focuses on understanding the pathogenesis of neoangiogenesis and collateral artery formation in patients with large vessel vasculitis.
