Summary
Aswath Karai graduated from Michigan State University in 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. While at MSU, he worked in Dr. Tuo Wang’s lab analyzing fungal cell wall polysaccharides using solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Additionally, he conducted research in Dr. Juan Guan’s lab, working on imaging phase separation of oncogenic proteins.
In 2026, Aswath joined the Functional Immunogenomics Section, led by Dr. Luis M. Franco, as a postbaccalaureate fellow.
Research Statement
Aswath’s research interests lie in drug development and delivery. Using molecular biology and computational modeling, he is engineering nanobodies, stable antibody fragments, for targeted drug delivery. Ultimately, his goal is to develop nanobodies that can deliver glucocorticoids directly to human CD4+ T cells.
