The goals of NIAMS’ funding policies are to maximize the impact of our investments in research into the causes, treatments, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases; the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out this research; and the dissemination of information on research progress in these diseases.
In keeping with the FY 2024 changes to our funding approach, NIAMS continues to set aside 20% of our RPG budget for paying applications that fall outside our R01 payline.
As part of that process, the Institute will consider several criteria that aim to ensure that we support a broad variety of science, study populations, investigators, and institutions, reflecting our Scientific Mission. Information about Institute priorities is provided in our Strategic Plan as well as Notices of Special Interest, found in the NIH Guide.
Applicants are encouraged to contact NIAMS program staff with questions.
