Description

This photograph shows a biologist using a high throughput single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping system to genotype specimens from people with rheumatoid arthritis and specimens from control subjects in order to identify genetic factors that would increase a person’s susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis. In this photo she is loading an assay plate containing SNP products and an assay chip into a nanodispenser, a component of the high throughput SNP genotyping system. The nanodispenser transfers a small amount of the SNP product and deposits it onto the surface of a chip to be read by the mass spectrometry system, another instrument in the high throughput SNP genotyping system.
