Overview
The Muscle Development and Physiology Program research portfolio focuses on development, growth, and maintenance of skeletal muscle tissue. Grantees are investigating mechanisms of muscle repair and regeneration; basic biology of satellite cells and muscle stem cells; and excitation-contraction coupling.
Studies also are underway to better understand skeletal muscle fitness and adaptation to exercise, and mechanisms in skeletal muscle contractile apparatus. In addition, funded researchers are exploring muscle metabolism and muscle imaging.
