NIAMS Small Grant Program for New Investigators (R03)
Read the NOFO: Limited Competition: Small Grant Program for NIAMS K01, K08, K23, and K25 Recipients (R03) (Clinical Trials Not Allowed)
Program Purpose: The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) is seeking small grant (R03) applications to stimulate and facilitate the entry of promising new investigators into research on arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases and injuries. The R03 is intended to enhance the capability of NIAMS-supported K awardees to conduct research as they complete their transition to fully independent investigator status.
The R03 grant mechanism supports different types of projects, including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology. The R03 is, therefore, intended to support research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources and that provide support, in addition to the career development award, for a subsequent R01, or equivalent, application.
Note: Clinical trials of any phase will not be supported by this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).
Duration: No more than 2 years, not renewable.
Budget: Multi-year funds up to $100,000 direct costs for entire project period.
Eligibility: Limited Competition: Small Grant Program for NIAMS K01, K08, K23, and K25 Recipients.
Only current NIAMS-supported K01, K08, K23 or K25 awardees in their second to fourth year of award are eligible to apply for this funding opportunity. K awardees who have already successfully competed for an R01, or equivalent, grant are ineligible. See the definition of R01 Equivalent Grant.
Applicants are ineligible if they have been awarded an R03 from the NIAMS Small Grant Program for NIAMS K08/K23 Recipients (R03) or from the NIAMS Small Grant Program for NIAMS K01/K08/K23/K25 Recipients (R03).
