Yuriko Yamazaki, M.D., Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Fellow (Visiting)

Cutaneous Leukocyte Biology Section

Summary

Yuriko Yamazaki, M.D., Ph.D., was trained as a dermatologist at the Chiba University Dermatology Department and became a board-certified dermatologist in Japan in 2021. During graduate school at Chiba University, she researched the genotypic and phenotypic traits of outbreak strains of Staphylococcus aureus in a hospital setting. Dr. Yamazaki continued her work as an assistant professor at Osaka University from October 2022 to March 2023. Additionally, in 2018, she obtained the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.

Research Statement

Since graduate school, Dr. Yamazaki has researched one of the most urgent issues in medicine: the outbreak of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. She discovered a critical mechanism that epigenetically controls bacterial behavior, promoting bacterial adaptation in a hospital environment. She now focuses on the host's immunological reaction in the skin to deepen the understanding of infection immunity.
