Summary
Yasuko Furumoto, Ph.D., is the scientific review officer on the NIAMS Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (AMS) review committee. She also serves as a Receipt and Referral Liaison for NIAMS. In addition to the AMS committee, she has served as the scientific review officer (SRO) for reviews of NIAMS special emphasis panels such as resource center grants, T32s, and ancillary studies.
Dr. Furumoto obtained her Ph.D. in immunology from Juntendo University in Tokyo. She then performed her postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Molecular and Immunogenetics at NIAMS where she studied immunoglobulin receptor signaling in allergic and inflammatory responses.
Before joining the NIAMS Extramural Program in 2018, Dr. Furumoto was a staff scientist in the Translational Immunology Section of the NIAMS Intramural Research Program where she studied the mechanisms of action of Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitors on various immune cell populations in autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. She was trained as an SRO at the NIH Center for Scientific Review and previously served as an SRO at the National Cancer institute.
