Dr. Robert Colbert is a board-certified pediatric rheumatologist with a long-standing interest in understanding the pathogenesis of spondyloarthritis. After completing clinical training in pediatrics and rheumatology, he did postdoctoral research in molecular immunology at the University of North Carolina

The NIAMS Board of Scientific Counselors (BSC) regularly reviews the institute's Intramural Research Program, in compliance with NIH guidelines. The BSC advises scientific and clinical directors on the quality, productivity and impact of the intramural research they oversee.

VEXAS syndrome is a disease that causes inflammatory and hematologic (blood) manifestations. The syndrome is caused by mutations in the UBA1 gene of blood cells and acquired later in life. Patients do not pass the disease to their children.

OD determines Institute programs, plans, and policies and provides management, program analysis, and scientific program reporting services to the Institute, as well as scientific leadership, policy guidance, and overall operational and administrative coordination. Liaison role NIH, HHS, and everywhere.

NIAMS Organization Structure.

The Office of Science and Technology (OST) is responsible for the NIAMS Labs core facilities. It provides and develops new technologies and advises the Scientific Director, Lab and Section Chiefs, and researchers on emerging science and technology.
