Shelby Ferebee graduated from the College of William & Mary in May 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Music. She is interested in entering dental school after completion of her IRTA Fellowship in the Laboratory of Oral Connective Tissue Biology.

In the lab, Shelby works with Dr. Karin Nagasaki on her research which focuses on developing a better understanding of genes and proteins that affect cementum, bone mineralization, and periodontal ligament attachment in the periodontium. Her projects involve the use of a transgenic mouse model to study the role of the RGD region of bone sialoprotein with the aim of better understanding how the RGD region and modifications to the region affect the development of the periodontal region.
