Summary

Matthew A. Sherman, M.D., is a clinical fellow who joined the Muscle Disease Unit at NIAMS/NIH in 2021. He is currently completing his pediatric rheumatology fellowship in conjunction with Children’s National Hospital. Dr. Sherman graduated in 2017 from the University of Michigan Medical School, where he joined the Raghavendran Lab investigating the immune dysregulation resulting from traumatic and infectious lung injuries. He completed his pediatrics residency at Children’s National Hospital in 2020.

Research Statement

Dr. Sherman is interested in juvenile idiopathic inflammatory myopathies and specifically those subtypes associated with interstitial lung disease. He is currently working on characterizing the phenotypic patterns of myositis-associated autoantibodies in juvenile IIM and determining what differences exist compared to adults.
