Dr. Patino-Martinez received his doctoral degree in Molecular Biomedicine from the Center for Research and Advanced Studies at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, Mexico, in December 2019. Throughout his studies, he received additional training at the Myeloid Cell laboratory, Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas, CSIC, Spain. After receiving his doctoral degree, Dr. Patino-Martinez spent another two years gaining research experience in immunology and cell biology.
His outstanding research has received recognition and multiple awards, including a CONACYT Ph.D. and Masters Scholarship, a CONACYT Ph.D. Mixed Scholarship Award for his research stay at the Biological Research Center (CIB), and a CSIC EMHE award for "Enhancing Mobility between Latin-American and Caribbean countries and Europe."
Dr. Patino-Martinez is interested in the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the etiology and pathogenesis of systemic autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with a particular emphasis on the contribution of neutrophils and macrophages to its pathophysiology.
