Amelia graduated in May 2019 with a degree in bioengineering from University of Maryland, College Park. She is interested in research related to regenerative medicine and tissue engineering for orthopedic applications.
At NIAMS, Amelia is studying the pathogenesis of Melorheostosis, a rare sclerosing bone disease. A somatic mosaic mutation in MAP2K1, an intracellular signaling protein, has been implicated in half of cases. Amelia is researching the effect of this mutation on intra- and intercellular signaling, with emphasis on how somatic mosaicism plays a role in pathology of this disease.
