Research Areas
Translational research in rheumatic diseases is expanding rapidly due to new avenues of research provided by recent discoveries about the genetic factors that influence disease susceptibility and severity. This portfolio is focused on human studies that aim at discovering the genes that cause rheumatic diseases, their interactions and, potentially, their targeting for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. It includes large cohort genetic studies, programs for genetic and genomic studies and centers for research translation. Human translational research projects involving early testing of biomarkers of disease are also included.
